Are there Sexual Headaches?

Posted by: Bob Jones | Comments (0)

Orgasm is usually an enjoyable and positive activity for most people, however it can become less enjoyable for those who find that it starts coital headaches. For these people, sexual activity of any kind can cause coital headache attacks.

Medically speaking, a headache, or cephalalgia, is a symptom of various conditions of the head and sometimes the neck too. They can be classified into two main categories: primary or idiopathic, and symptomatic, although there are other ways of grouping them too; for example by severity or by area.

Put simply, primary headaches have a known or unknown cause, whereas symptomatic headaches are often caused by trauma. Primary headaches include: migraine, tension headaches, cluster headaches and coital headaches, amongst others.

Coital headaches, also called coital cephalalgia or sexual headaches, is a rare, but painful form of headache that starts in the nape of the neck during sexual intercourse, but before climax. It can occur in all conditions where climax is the expected result. The pain can move to behind the eyes and can then be even more severe. Typically the pain will last from a few minutes to an hour or so, but it has been known to last for days in the worst cases.

Men are three times more at risk to coital headaches than women and the age groups most at risk are those between 20 and 25 and 30 and 44. Nobody really understands why this should be. Coital headaches afflict about one percent of the population, although this figure could be a lot higher because of people being embarrassed to talk about it.

Coital headaches are benign, meaning that they have no long-term ill effects, as far as doctors know. It seems that people taking sexual stimulants, like Viagara, are about 10% more at risk to a bout of coital headache. In fact, besides the obvious, temporary pain, the worst effects of coital headaches are varying levels of dizziness, confusion and stiffness of neck.

However, it is still worth visiting a doctor though, especially in the early cases, just to rule out the more severe causes of headaches, such as brain tumours and blood clots. However, the doctor can do rather little to help by way of cure. He could suggest a complete abstention from any kind of sexual activity for a period ranging from days to weeks or he may suggest trying taking medication some time before sexual foreplay commences.

Some of the headache medications that may be taken are indomethacin, imitrex, zomig and propranolol, although if the headaches continue, your doctor could suggest daily preventive medication. People suffering from frequent coital headaches may obtain a positive response to migraine preventive medications, such as beta blockers or verapamil. Non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) such as ibuprofen may similarly be helpful. Coital headaches and migraines are also more likely to occur if a person is in poor physical shape.

However, the treatment for coital headaches for many sufferers can be as simple as bringing your weight up or down to the normal weight for your size. Coital headaches can also be cured in some sufferers by an increased level of exercise, although this could bring on exertion headaches in a few cases.

The good news is though that most headaches related to sex are not serious in nature. In fact, various studies actually suggest that orgasm can relieve headaches and migraine in some cases. This means that for some adults, refusing sex may actually be the reason that delays headache treatment.

Straight Marriages – Gay Unions

Posted by: Barry Jones | Comments (0)

The debate on gay marriages has been a very hot political topic for many years and because it is so hot a topic, the number of cities that have come out publicly either for or against the topic is not so astounding. While there are few states which actually allow gay or same-sex marriages, there are some that are more liberal, affording almost equal rights. Massachusetts is currently the only state in the United States that allows same-sex marriages. The state of Rhode Island is generous enough to recognize as a legal marriage any same-sex marriage that is carried out in Massachusetts, which is considered a major victory by many same-sex supporters.

Elections of latter years have seen this as a very hot subject and with the White House stating publicly that marriage can only be between a man and a woman, not same-sexes, many states have been very reluctant to sanction same-sex marriages. However, a few states have permitted same-sex civil unions, which is very similar to marriage.

These states are California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maine, New Jersey, and Vermont. The District of Columbia also recognizes same-sex unions and the Governor of New Hampshire has stated publicly that he will soon sign a bill giving the OK to same-sex unions. This is a major advance for those who support the movement.

While many states have not given the go-ahead on the issue of same-sex marriage, there are states which are sitting around discussing the issue. Many couples who are struggling for their rights have argued that there is just no difference in the way they run their households compared with their heterosexual counterparts. They have also stated that while they may be with a partner who is the same sex as them, they do still love their partner and should have the legal right to marry them too.

This has always been a contentious subject, and likely will continue to be a hot issue for many years to come. With the issues raging within the states and at the national level, it will probably be a very long time before the gay and lesbian rights groups are able to truly declare a victory for their cause. Nevertheless, there is some solace to be taken in the small triumphs as they occur, and another Governor of a state being ready to permit a civil union is at least a move in the direction of triumph.

However, the fact remains that the views of the individual states tend to reflect the views of the President. With a President in office who is a staunch opponent of same-sex marriage as well as civil union, it is unlikely to allow much room for many triumphs until a more accommodating, or rather liberal, President is in the White House. Time will tell what President Obama’s views are.

After the bill has passed through all the channels of state, it will go into effect as early as the next year for the New Hampshire residents, who have been waiting patiently. Each state that gives this right to its residents opens the door to more states to become more tolerant. Finally, this paves the way for America to join most of Europe in recognizing the legal inequalities of straight and gay couples nationwide.

All right, no more procrastinating, this is the time you have been waiting for and it’s up to you to turn it into reality. But, how can you get that fantasy date? You have to start from the beginning and that means to invite the person you are interested in out. Well, how should you invite a person out? Do you have to be assertive? Do you need to be coy? Perhaps you could do with a few tips to ask someone out?

The following are quite simple but yet essential tips you can use when you find it hard asking a person out on a date. These tips are great when you want to invite out someone you fancy. Firstly, know the right reason or reasons for asking a person out. When you know the real reason(s), the right words will surely come to you.

What if the person you fancy says no? Well, don’t take a rebuttal to heart and definitely don’t expect it. Take it gracefully and perhaps you could even have a light-hearted joke ready for the occasion. However, for some people, it might be worth practising the words you want to say. To achieve this, try to keep the reasons for the date upper most in your mind.

However, the person might say “yes” and then you should have a suggestion ready where to go, otherwise it seems as if you have not given it much thought. As much as possible, be ready with some ideas. See to it that you know how to answer, if the person asks you why you are asking her out. You do not have to over-flatter, but you have to make sure that you make the person feel good. In this way, you can show how thoughtful you are, but never pressure someone to go out with you.

If you did, the result would probably be negative. And don’t pressure them to tell you why it is a “no”. Also never stand someone up. This means that when you ask a person out, you mean it and you do not leave her waiting for nothing. If the person says no, do not be bitter about it. You just have to move on and not treat that person badly. Having some alcohol to boost your confidence is a no no.

It may just put you in an even worse situation. You have to be confident naturally. The more, the better, but not on a first date. If you want to invite someone out for a date, don’t do it when she is with a group of friends.

These are really useful recommendations and you really ought to take notice of them. They will certainly assist you if you want to take out your special person.
