In recent years, fluorescent lights have gained greater recognition and acceptance. With the advancement in the technology, we can now find fluorescent bulbs with in- built starters or you can say- no starters.

With no starters present, the most common fluorescent freak out is damaged socket or a faulty ballast. Moreover, it becomes easy to mend any faulty or imperfection in the tube light.

Fixing the CFL that has no starters are relatively easy to fix and do not require any special skills. All you need is to gather the necessary items required to repair the tube light. Phillips-head screwdriver, masking tape, pencil, replacement socket, wire strippers and replacement ballast are some of them.

Cut off the power supply to the particular light fixture. Since, tube lights are generally hardwired so, turn the circuit breaker off inside the home electrical panel. Remove the light fixture cover. Twist the tube light to detach it from the socket.

Take out the socket from the tube fixture for easy approach to the wires. With a masking tape and a pencil, we mark the connections of the wires and pull the wires from the socket. Replace the socket with a new one and insert back the wires into the socket terminals. Fix the socket into the fixture and press it hard till it fits in place. Screw back the cover onto the tube light.

To change burnt out ballast, we first find the clips at both ends of the fixture that keep the cover in place. We than pull the clips and ease the casing. Take the casing away and reach to the ballast.

Locate pairs of blue wires, red wires, black wires and white wires near the ballast. Cut the blue, red, black and white wires several inches from the end of the ballast, using the cutting edge of the pliers. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws on each end of the ballast, and then remove the ballast. Hold the new ballast in position on the light fixture, and tighten the screws on each end of the ballast.

With the help of a twist wire connector, we connect the wires back to the ballast, keeping the color in mind. At times, the tube light may even be faulty. Judge them with their color. If you find them black from ends, you might need to replace it with the another one.

Remodeling Ideas

Posted by: Laurel Griffin | Comments (0)

Spring is a wonderful time to think about home improvement projects. Not only do folk wish to make their home look better for a \’new year\’ but , also, during periods of depression, some home improvement projects can Uplift your spirits without murdering your deposit account. There are lots of home improvement projects you can do for spring, but these five do-it-yourself projects are just some of the best – they\’re fun, they are inexpensive and they will make your home look great! You can always hire an expert tile contractor if you decide not to do it yourself.

Putting up a fence. Spring time is the ideal time to put up a fence, if you don\’t already have one, or maybe you need a new fence. Putting up a fence does require some planning on your side. First decide if you want to hire a contractor, which i recommend, or if you need to put the fence up yourself. I don\’t suggest putting up a fence yourself, because of the safety risks involved, and the time an effort it takes to finish it yourself. Believe me, hiring a contractor to put your fence up is money spent wisely. I know this from experience. About 4 years back I had a fence put up, I hired a contractor, and all I had to do was pick out the material and pay the contractor. The contractor you hire generally does all the leg work for you as far as contacting the county office for the land records, the application grid, and any required authorizes. If you decide you would like to install it yourself, The Home Depot is a great source for the materials and instructions for putting up the fence yourself. For do-it-yourselves fencing materials go from about $49 per 72 inch section for aluminum fencing to about $166 per 48 in. section for vinyl fencing. Though more expensive the vinyl material is basically maintenance free apart from the a couple of times a year hose off of waste. I went with the treated wood option for my fence, which was a bit less costly and also straightforward maintenance, but you do have to retreat the wood every 3-5 years. I suspect our total cost for work and materials was around six thousand. Again money well spent.

Deck and or siding washing. After the snow liquifies and the cold weather subsides, our decks and siding tend to look a bit dingy and unclean. Deck and siding washing is generally something that you can do yourself in one or two days depending on the dimensions of your deck and quantity of siding to be washed. In my opinion, again from experience, it is not worth paying somebody to come out and pressure wash your deck or siding. This is a task that even a beginner like myself can handle. If you do not currently have a pressure washer, invest in one. Pressure washers run anywhere from $179 for a 2000 PSI washer ( generally counseled for home, non commercial use ) up to $4,995 for 3100 PSI washer. As with anything you buy it is up to you how much you want to spend better to speak with a roofing contractor, but for general home usage for a standard sized home ( 2100 sq ft or less ) the 2k PSI model works fine. Be careful when selected pressure washers, as the bigger the PSI, the harder the washer is to handle and maneuver.

The same applies to your sink and vanity. Does the self-love need to be replaced? Could painting or refinishing the wood of the narcissism be done rather than purchasing a new one? Can the counter top get replaced without painting or staining the vanity? Can the sink be saved with a little cleanup? By taking another look at these sorts of things, you could save hundres of greenbacks on your vanity and sink alone. The same technique would be applied to the bath also. In many cases, washing the bathtub can save on the cost of a new tub. If the bathtub is damage from scratches and the paint is chipped, a new tub may be less expensive than having it refinished. That will rely upon the style of tub in the rest room.

Does tile truly must be used in the rest room remodel? Does tile need to be placed around a tub with a shower head when a tub surround can be used instead? In a case like this, employing a tub surround will be less expensive than tile. This is due to the adhesive, tile costs, grout and spacers required for tiling. Installing a tub surround can assist in making the toilet functional quicker than installing tile. This is due to only having to wait for the adhesive, if it is needed for the tub surround, to dry and can be installed in some hours one afternoon. With tile, there is the cutting tiles to fit round the water spout, on and off thing, and shower head. Then the tile must be placed on the wall after the adhesive with tile spacers being placed between. The tile will have to dry before grouting which will take another day to do and for it to dry. This doesn\’t include the drywall if it needs to get replaced due to water damage or is the incorrect kind of sheet rock for this area of the rest room.

Posted by: Scott Rodgers | Comments (0)

In side by side refrigerators, you can easily store things in refrigerator as well as freezer. They provide you a lot of space in freezer. You can get different features in this refrigerator with different sleek models.

Side by side refrigerator having capacity near around 24.5 cu will cost near around $1900-$2500. Some good manufacturers of side by side refrigerator are Whirlpool, GE, Frigidiare, Avanti and many more. Mostly this type of fridge is efficient in saving energy. A fridge in this category having capacity around 30.6 cu will cost you somewhere around 7000$.

Top freezer refrigerators have a small freezer in comparison to side by side freezers. The position of refrigerator is also at a low level which makes it inconvenient for users. As per as horizontal space is considered, top freezers are considered good for it.

Compact top freezers having capacity around 3.31 cu. ft. costs you somewhere around 150$ to 225$ whereas one having capacity of 24.6 cu. ft. is available in $1300 to $3000. Some of the manufacturers of this freeze are GE, Avanti etc.

Bottom freezer models have good space for freezer and also convenient to use as compared to top freezer models. The problem of top freezer model is eliminated here and the refrigerator can be easily used. They also have features like lift out baskets, sliding shelves etc.

You can get a compact size bottom freezer model (5 cu. ft.) or a big sized (24 cu. ft.) bottom freezer model. Their market price is also different. Compact size of this model can be obtained by spending $500 or above and a big one by spending $1200 or above. The top manufacturers of this model are: LG, Kenmore, Maytag, Amana and GE.

Built in refrigerators are generally wider than usual models. These models are generally available as semi finished pieces which are finished as per customer specifications. Compact Models value for money, perform all the basic functions of a refrigerator and come with an economic price tag. These refrigerators are easy to transport. Special compact refrigerators are designed to fit under kitchen sinks.

A compact refrigerator having capacity of 4.4 cu. ft. is available in $80 to $100 whereas a much smaller refrigerator having capacity of 1.7 cu. ft. is also available in a similar range of price. GE, Whirlpool, Haier, Danby and Koolatron are some of the popular manufacturers of this model.

Basic Steps Of Water Treatment

Posted by: Scott Rodgers | Comments (0)

Seven simple steps can make water potable, these steps are- Preliminary Treatment, Coagulation, Flocculation, Clarification, Softening and Stabilization, Filtration, Fluoridation and Disinfection. Here we will focus on brief description of all these steps.

Preliminary treatment treats water physically, chemically and mechanically. In physical treatment it removes particles like rocks, stones, wastes from water. Chemical treatment includes adding some chemicals in water to inactivate algae and their multiplication. Mechanical treatment means separating sand, grit by pre-sedimentation.

Second step is coagulation, which uses chemicals like alum to make suspended particles heavy and settles them down in the water tank. You can remove all the microbes, silt and other suspended particles from water using this method.

In flocculation, floc goes down at the bottom of water because of their increased weight. The water is then passed through a finer screen to remove floc particles from it.

Clarification is also known as Sedimentation. It allows water to sit in a large basin long enough for the removal of small particles left out by flocculation filtering. As the water sits undisturbed, these particles slowly begin to settle at the bottom of the basin. The particles settle into the sludge of sediment and allow water to be drained above the sludge line. The sediment is then scraped from the bottom of the basin.

Excessive hardness and excessive softness makes water unfit for use. Water becomes hard because of some hardness causing minerals present in the water. Hard water uses more soaps and detergents in comparison to soft water and also creates problems in pipes. Extra soft water (due to lack of minerals) results in corrosion in pipes. So we need a method which can help us in balancing between two. Softening and stabilization helps us in doing so and it makes water mineral level just perfect to use.

A final filtration stage occurs in order to remove any additional sediment that is still present in water. A fine screen is used during filtration for removal of tiny particles, microorganisms and any other contaminant that is left out during early stages. After this step, you will get highly purified water.

Fluoridation is a low-priced process for reducing teeth decay. Water sometimes creates problems in your teeth. By adding fluoride (F-) in water you can get relief from this problem. It is available in powder form and as a solution also. For killing all the germs, pathogens, disinfection process is used. Chlorine is an effective disinfectant. Water is now perfectly ready for drinking purpose.
