Cool Films Regarding Mistaken Identities

By Vernon Fox

An illogical but forever cool storyline for a movie is when the characters switch lives with each other or imagine to be someone else, it always ends up being very funny and the message is most often about bearing in mind the other individual’s point of view.

From 1987 and featuring Dudley Moore, Kirk Cameron, “Like Father, Like Son”. A heart surgeon unintentionally sprinkles an old Indian potion into his Bloody Mary and presto, he and his laid-back son have switched identities. Cast includes Dudley Moore, Kirk Cameron, Margaret Colin, Catherine Hicks, Patrick O’Neal, and Sean Astin.

The father is a heart surgeon who happens to be so wrapped up in his own vocation that he pays no attention to the challenges the son is having with school and social activities. The trading places with each other leads to bizarrely hilarious difficulties at work and at school but each receives insight into the others life.

A similar premise is the film “Freaky Friday” from 2003. This one involves a 15-year old daughter and her mother who both don’t try to appreciate the other. The mom wants more support for her imminent marriage and the daughter wants more support for her musical aspirations.

A Chinese restaurant and a magical fortune cookie on Thursday evening bring about a Friday to remember. But the wedding ceremony is on Saturday. Will they be switched back in time? Starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Lindsay Lohan and Mark Harmon.

Finally a recommendation for a dissimilar type of identity swap, in “Mrs. Doubtfire” Robin Williams plays a free-spirited husband and father who grudgingly gets divorced after fourteen years. However, he cannot stand to be away from his children so he pretends to be a British housekeeper and his ex-wife hires him as a nanny.

Robin Williams stars as the father and of course, Mrs. Doubtfire, Sally Fields is the mom and Lisa Jakob, Matthew Lawrence and Mara Wilson play the children. Mrs. Doubtfire is a fantastic family film from 1993 that should not be forgotten.

And of course, there may be more but there you have three suggestions for some funny and remarkable motion pictures based upon the premise of a erroneous identity. Have fun!
